Summary, etc.:
This single sheet, folded once, makes three sides for writing and the fourth page for an envelope, addressed to Mr. Sam'l P. Williams, Lima, LaGrange County, Indiana. It was written on December 11, 1840. The first two pages are from his brother Thomas, and the third page is from his mother, M. Williams. Thomas wrote: "I hope it will not be eight years again before you and I may meet our parents, brothers and sisters at home. Father left for Long Island." He gives family news. He wrote: "We all depend on seeing your wife next summer."

Biographical or Historical Data:
Samuel P. Williams was born about 1815 in Connecticut. In 1840 (when the letter was written) and in 1870 (when the federal census taker came to his house), he was living in Lima, LaGrange County, Indiana. He was 55 and his wife Jane was 48. They had four children living with them: Mary C. (age 22); Ella J. (age 20); Catherine (age 12); and Jane P. (age 10).
