Summary:

This collection includes a two-page typewritten letter by Mary E. Studebaker of Indianapolis, Indiana to Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Scott of Camp Koch at Troy, Indiana. Dated August 6, 1951, the letter expresses Ms. Studebaker's enjoyment regarding her visit to the camp and offers her ideas and wishes for helping the children. She also inquires about needed donations and offers her admiration for the Scotts and the counselors for the work they were doing at the camp.

Biographical or Historical Data:	Camp Koch, a summer camp for children with disabilities, was situated on a high bluff overlooking the Ohio River near Troy, Indiana. The camp was made possible by Evansville industrialist and philanthropist, Henry F. Koch. Koch donated the property and paid for the construction of the buildings and furnishings and the camp was dedicated and presented to the Indiana Society for Crippled Children in ceremonies on May 15, 1949. The first camps began in June of 1949 and offered children with special needs from Indiana and Northern Kentucky a place to enjoy recreation, crafts, and other activities in a save environment. Camp Koch is not the same as the Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana's residential camp facility, Camp Henry F. Koch, near Cannelton, Indiana.Source:"Camp Koch, Near Troy, is Nearing Completion." She was a graduate of Indiana University and was a noted librarian and legal secretary with the Indiana Historical Society. She was a member of several clubs, including the Indianapolis Legal Secretaries Association, the National Genealogical Society, and the Indiana and Marion County historical groups.
