Indiana Forum, Inc. collection 1968-1977.
This collection includes correspondence, memorandums, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, photographs and other documents ranging from 1968 to 1977 regarding the establishment of the Indiana Forum, Inc. (INFO) and the organization's public service activities. The collection contains several publications, including the INFO pamphlet Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Tax: A Basic Book on Public Finance in Indiana (circa 1970s); the pamphlets Retirement, Discipline and Removal of Judges: The California Commission Story by Louis H. Burke and The Commission Plan for the Retirement, Discipline and Removal of Judges printed by the American Judicature Society (1968 to circa 1970); The States and the Urban Crisis report of the American Assembly (October 30 - November 2, 1969); The Role of the States in the Urban Crisis address by Larry Margolis to the Midwest American Assembly (June 4, 1970); and Times Grows Short for America: The Role of the State in the Urban Crisis report of the Mid-America Assembly (June 4-7, 1970). The collection also includes photographs from INFO conferences and 2 copies of a photograph of John D. Craig. Correspondents include O.C. Carmichael, John D. Craig, James P. Carroll, Mrs. Harriet Innskeep, Donald R. Lash, Larry Margolis, Peggy C. Ray, John A. Scott, Richard B. Stoner, Frank Sullivan, Sarkes Tarzian, Richard J. Van Mele, and Jesse W. Whitley.

Biographical or Historical Data: | The Indiana Forum, Inc. (INFO) was organized in August, 1970 as a statewide, nonpartisan organization that was created to "objectively explore public issues, seek out the ideas and opinions of all citizens, develop channels for information and motivate all citizens to play a more active role in the solution of Indiana problems." Organizers of the forum included Democrats, Republicans, and political independents and membership was open to all Indiana residents. Among those who formed the corporation were Dr. O.C. Carmichael, president of Associates Investment Company of South Bend; Richard Stoner, vice-chairman of the board, Cummins Engine Company, Columbus; Mrs. Harriett Innskeep, trustee of Indiana University; and John R.
