Content descriptions

Summary, etc.:
"'Restoring the legend--the French Lick Springs Hotel' chronicles the hotel's fascinating history and restoration. The first third of the program, through photographs and rare archival film, examines the edifice and culture that Thomas Taggart built around the hotel's mineral springs. It follows the glory days before the Depression and the convention years that followed, as well as the hotel's eventual decline. The last two-thirds of the program traces the hotel's restoration, including structural modifications, the serendipitous find of 'scagliola,' interiour detailing, conversion of the historic Colonnade Room into a buffet, and the discovery and opening of a mysterious hidden safe. Outside the building, the cameras follow the restoration of the Donald Ross golf course, the relocation of the bellmen's building and the construction of the new casino and convention space. Througout the program, architects, project directors and many of the workers themselves offer insights into the procedures, construction methods, and restoration techniques that were used."--Container.
