Biographical or Historical Data: | The Sons of Liberty was a secret society, during the U.S. Civil War, who were opposed the Lincoln administration and advocated absolute state sovereignty. They were Democrats and Copperheads. Their group died out when the Confederacy lost the war. The society's Indiana commander was Harrison Dodd. The supreme commander was Clement Vallandigham. Other leaders, called "major generals," were Bowles, Milligan, Walker, and Humphries. |
