Biographical or Historical Data: | Jacob Scogin, born September 5, 1811, was the oldest son of Elisha (1789-1821) and Ruth (Blasdel) Scogin, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Records indicate that in 1834, Jacob Scogin filed a Petition of Partition of Property against the heirs of his father, Elisha Scogin, to allow for the sale of their father's property to share proceeds among heirs. The court appointed Jonathan Blasdel, brother of Ruth (Blasdel) Scogin and brother-in-law to Jacob Scogin, as guardian of Elisha Scogin's minor children, Levi and Elisha Scogin. Jacob Scogin died in February, 1838, and is buried next to his father, Elisha Scogin, in the Elizabethtown Cemetery, Ohio.Sources: Items in the collection.Gilson, Tom, and Rose Hill.
