A third generation Californian, JERRY CAMARILLO DUNN, JR., was born and raised in Los Angelesâa fact that elicits pity (at best) in San Francisco, but for which he makes no apology. San Francisco became a second home during college at nearby Stanford University. In later years, Dunn lived in the city and also in Marin County across the Golden Gate Bridge. He is the author of numerous books, including National Geographicâs Driving Guides to America: California and Nevada and Hawaii; The Smithsonian Guide to Historic America: The Rocky Mountain States; Idiom Savant: Slang as It Is Slung; and National Geographicâs My Favorite Place on Earth: Celebrated People Share Their Travel Discoveries (www.myfavoriteplacenatgeo.com). A former staff editor and writer for National Geographic Traveler magazine, he has won three Lowell Thomas Awards from the Society of American Travel Writers for his feature stories.
