|Summary, etc.:|| This collection has minutes, photographs, newspaper clippings, and histories of the literary club named for Katharine Merrill Graydon, granddaughter of Samuel Merrill, the first treasurer of the State of Indiana. The club was started in 1923 by Mary Ellen George, who wrote its ten-year history. The women, who were former students of Miss Grayson at Butler University, met until October 1973. Miss Grayson taught at Butler from 1907 until 1930 when she was named Professor Emeritus and was relieved of her active duties. Her book, "Butler College in the World War," published in 1922, told the stories of Butler men who served in World War I.

|Biographical or Historical Data:|| Katharine Merrill Graydon (1858-1934) was a professor of English Literature at Butler University, from which she graduated in 1878. She wrote "Butler College in the World War," published in 1922. The Katharine Merrill Graydon Literary Club began in 1923, and met until 1973. Members of the club were women who were former students of Miss Graydon.
