The collection is open for research use.
This collection consists of transcripts from a series of letters found in an old Indiana geology book. The first letter is from Richard Owen dated 13 August 1888, detailing that he mailed a “Report of a Geological Reconnaissance of the State of Indiana made in the year 1837.” The other letters from various individuals are addressed to Lieutenant A.W. Vogdes, of New York, about accessing various reports about Indiana's geology.

This collection consists of transcripts from a series of letters found in an old Indiana geology book. The letters date from April 11, 1878 to January 29, 1889. They were collected by Helen Gohres, of Chula Vista, California and donated on December 21, 1965 to Hazel Hopper, then, the head of the Indiana Division of the Indiana State Library.
