|Biographical or Historical Data:|| Mary Hartwell Catherwood was born Mary Hartwell, December 16, 1847, in Ohio. She was an author known for historical romances set in Canada and “local color” stories set in the Midwestern United States. She married James Steele Catherwood between 1860 and 1870, and together they had two children. Catherwood died December 26, 1902, in Chicago.
