Biographical or Historical Data: The Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) Service Men's Center (of Central [Branch] YMCA) at 310 N. Illinois was established approximately Nov. 1965. The planning council consisted of military men stationed at Fort Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana. The executive director and council developed a group of Junior Hostesses or Cadettes, attendance by servicemen was assisted by bus service from Fort Harrison, and the organization provided servicemen with leisure time and social activities, field trips and other activities. Veteran's Day celebrations were held from 1965 through 1969.Information found within the collection.
Ownership and Custodial History: This collection was received by Rare Books and Manuscripts as a donation from Janet Steinhoff on 1977.
