Biographical or Historical Data: The Service Club of Indianapolis was founded in 1920 by Howard C. Caldwell, Richard H. Habbe, John I. Kautz, Storey M. Larkin, Frank E. Long, Sidney S. Miller and John Paul Ragsdale. There were 38 charter members and the basic requirement was that each member be a veteran of the Army, Navy or Marine Corps during April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918. Its function was to serve veterans in various ways and not allow members to be in competing business enterprises. Later the membership requirements changed to include that each member be a 1) citizen of the United States and 2) a resident of Indianapolis or vicinity and that membership be capped at 175. In later years, service in any other military conflict to which the President or Congress had committed armed forces was accepted for membership. The organization has a website which was copyrighted in 2015.Sources:The Service Club of Indianapolis.
