Summary, etc.: Lucy Campbell collected ten newspaper clippings from the Indianapolis Star published in October 1930 in Kate Milner Rabb's column “A Hoosier Listening Post.” The articles reprinted letters from “Dr. James T. Lowry, husband of the aunt of Miss Lucy Campbell” about the journey that he and his friend made to the California gold fields in 1850. Traveling with James Lowry was T. H. Adams. The young men (ages 22 and 24) were from Perryville, Vermillion County, Indiana. Their trip began in St. Louis in April 1850. The last letter in the collection was dated April 13, 1858, from Brooklyn, Oregon Territory.
