Summary, etc.: The collection comprises a copy of a 20-page, typed manuscript, entitled "Looking Backward," with handwritten edits, by Nancy Catherine (Goar) Maze written late in her life, concerning her family history and recollections of growing up in Tiption County.

Biographical or Historical Data: Nancy Catherine Goar was born in 1861 in Tipton County, Indiana, to Henry Goar II and Martha Ellen Smith. Henry Goar had purchased land in Tipton County on March 20, 1849, for cash.The family lived in Cicero, Indiana during the late 19th century. In September 7, 1881, Nancy married Matthew T. Maze, who was born on November 16, 1857, in Lewisville, Henry County, Indiana. They had three children: Emery E. (1882-1941), Wesley Earl Erie (1884-1885), and Nellie Mabel (1889-1986). Both husband and wife died in Nebraska; Matthew in 1940 and Nancy in 1946.
Ownership and Custodial History: This collection was received by Rare Books and Manuscripts as a donation from Richard Frecon in 1994/03.
