Coleman in Indianapolis, Indiana ranging on August 4, 1942 regarding her father-in-law, A. B. Lowes and whether his military cap, haversack, sash, and old needle book from his service during the U.S. Civil War could be placed in a military museum or collection.

Biographical or Historical Data: Mary Cornell Lowes was born in Madison, Indiana. She married John Livingston Lowes around 1897, and they had a son named John Wilber Lowes one year later while living in Hanover, Jefferson County, Indiana. The family later lived in St. Louis, Missouri and Cambridge, Massachusetts. John Livingston Lowes was born in Decatur, Indiana on December 20, 1867. He became an American scholar and critic of English literature. John Livingston Lowes worked as an English professer, teaching at Washington Univeristy in St. Louis, Missouri from 1909 to 1918, and later Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 1918 to 1939. He died in Boston Massachusetts on August 15, 1945. Abraham (Abram) B. Lowes was born in Ohio in 1836 and spent most of his life in Pennsylvania. A Presbyterian clergyman, Lowes was put out of the theological seminary when the U.S. Civil War began. He enlisted as a corporal in the 18th Indiana Regiment, Company F. By the end of the war, Lowes reached the rank of captain. He and his wife, Mary B. Lowes, had two children: John Livingston and Fanny E. They lived in Washington, Pennsylvania.
