|Summary, etc.:|| Collected material relating to Charles Griffin and his ancestors consisting of a copy of the monthly periodical "The Ladies Repository and Gatherings of the West" in which Mr. Griffin wrote his family history, a handwritten transcription of the Griffin family Bible records, and a letter from Mardenna Hunter (Mrs. Curtis W. Hunter).

|Biographical or Historical Data:|| Charles Griffin (1808-1879), a native of Vermont, was the son of Dr. Jonathan Griffin and Nancy Hildreth Griffin. In 1831, Charles Griffin married Harriet Shephard (1814-1852) in Johnson County, Indiana. The couple had several children. After the death of his first wife, Charles Griffin married Catherine Cain Sharp Patton (1823-1868) in 1854 and had several more children. Charles Griffin passed away on August 14, 1879 in Saint Omer, Decatur County, Indiana.
