When Billie Dawn, a former Las Vegas showgirl, arrives in Washington, D.C., her obvious lack of sophistication makes for an embarrassing debut in the political social swim. Bored with shopping sprees, jewels, a TV that fits into her purse and all the things a material girl could want, Billie is helpless in civilized social situations until her millionaire bully of a boyfriend, Harry Brock, hires savvy journalist Paul Verrall to do an IQ make-over on this sparkling, if not polished, diamond in the rough. Far from the stuffy old tutor she imagines, however, Billie finds that Paul is a handsome mentor who shows her that knowledge is power. As Billie begins to blossom into an independent thinker, Harry and the capitol intelligentsia learn something too, that this woman whom no one ever listed to, has a lot to say and is making up her mind to take control of her life.
