"This report describes research projects addressing release mortality that were funded by NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) from 1999 to 2013. The projects highlighted in this section are not a complete accounting of all NMFS-funded release mortality research during this timeframe, but these projects do reflect the large majority of projects funded and research areas. The number of NMFS-funded research projects varies by region: Northeast (17), Southeast (24), West Coast (8), Alaska (4), and Pacific Islands (1). This report focuses on various approaches to incorporating release mortality assumptions into stock assessments, as well as techniques that have been used in the Northeast (Delphi Technique) and the West Coast (model-based approach) to develop revised release mortality estimates"--Executive summary.
