|Biographical or Historical Data:|| The Society of Indiana Pioneers was established on September 15, 1916. The society was to be composed of descendents of the original pioneer families that settled in Indiana. The purpose of the society was to “honor the memory and the work of the pioneers who opened Indiana to civilization”. The society intended to accomplish this purpose by encouraging historical research, advocating for the interpretation and education of state and local history, working with other historical societies, and helping to make information regarding the history of the state of Indiana available to citizens. The group's efforts in this regard acted as a catalyst to help create the Indiana History Conference.
