Gilbert Harris collection 1905-1946.

Summary:

This collection consists of various materials concerning Gilbert Harris from Indiana ranging from 1905 to 1946, relating to World War II and local concerns as well as deaths. Among the items relating to World War II are a ship's newspaper, a broadside welcoming returning troops to their voyage home on the S.S. Tristram Dalton, and newspaper and magazine clippings. The clippings are obituaries and announcements of an award and of a visit home. The collection also includes photocopies of an advertising card for a dry goods store, a broadside announcing a public sale of farm stock and goods, and an obituary for a young man who committed suicide.

Biographical or Historical Data:
Gilbert "Gib" Harris was born December 15, 1906 in Kennard Indiana to Frank and Marry Harris. He had four brothers and one sister. He married Inez E. Wilkinson and they lived in Anderson, Indiana where he worked as a shipping clerk in auto parts manufacturing. Harris enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 1, 1943 and was discharged October 6, 1945.
