The collection contains one abstract tracing the ownership of what, in 1821, constituted land holdings of over 88 acres in the District of Brookvillle in Indiana. This tracing of land ownership reviews early residents of what is now Broad Ripple in Indianapolis. Family names mentioned are McKay, Colip (also Colop and various other spellings), Coil (also Coile and other spellings), Miller, Mustard and Ford. Much of the record follows the passing on of land among the descendants of Jacob Coil. His last will and testament appears as item #8 in the abstract. The abstract mentions "the town plat of Wellington" and the "Town of Broad Ripple," especially the area of the latter known as Light Sugar Grove. Also given in the description of land boundaries is a mention of "the Broad Ripple of White River." Having traced boundaries and ownership, the abstract closes with the statement: "We certify that the above is a true and correct Plat representing a survey made" July 17, 1923. "This subdivision to be known ad designated as "Coil Home Place Addition" [the name used in 1923]. The Streets and Alleys are hereby dedicated to public use."
