Robert Thomas Mayhill collection, 1855-1858;1932.
This collection includes photocopies of three items from Dr. Benjamin F. Elder: a lecture card from Starling Medical College (Columbus, Ohio) for "Lectures. Materia Medica and General Pathology" by H.L. Thull, M.D. (circa 1855-1856); a February 27, 1858 recommendation for the degree of Doctor of Medicine for Elder from the Medical College of Ohio (Cincinnati, Ohio); and a March 4, 1858 notice of appointment of Dr. Elder as a resident physician at St. John's Hospital (Cincinnati). The collection also includes photocopies of a 3-page article, "Knightstown's New Modernly Equipped School Building," reprinted from the April 8, 1932 edition of the Knightstown Banner .

Biographical or Historical Data: | Robert Thomas "Tom" Mayhill was born April 18, 1917 in Delphi, Indiana to Bert and Dora (Thomas) Mayhill. His parents owned the Delphi Journal and he began his newspaper career at the age of 11. A Univeristy of Illinois graduate and World War II veteran, Mayhill purchased the Knightstown Banner in 1946. He married Peggy Kreisle on December 26, 1944 and they had four children. Mayhill was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 1991. He died at the age of 95 on June 27, 2012.
