Governor Edward L. Jackson of Indiana appointed members of an executive committee to "work towards the creation of a state memorial park including the site of the Lincoln family cabin and the grave of Nancy Hanks Lincoln". "In 1927 the Indiana Lincoln Union was formed to raise funds and encourage support for a memorial to recognize Lincoln's years in the Hoosier state."
