Carl Anderson was born September 1, 1875 in Brooklyn, Indiana, the son of John Wesley and Lide (Spaulding) Anderson. He spent his formative years in Spencer, Indiana and later attended DePauw University. Anderson worked as a chalk talk artist and was the author of several books. Anderson married Frances B. King on July 27, 1904 in Owen County, Indiana. In November of 1913, he and Frances founded and edited the Owen Leader newspaper, which he maintained control of until 1939, when he sold the publication.
