Johann Espenschied (1796/1797-1889) married Anna Marie Maltz (Moeltz) and had nine children at Siefersheim, Rheinhesse, Germany. After his wife died, and his eldest son decided to remain in Germany, Johann and the remaining eight of his children immigrated in the 1840s from Germany to Evansville and Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Descendants and relatives lived in Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, California, New York, New Jersey and elsewhere.
