Morris, Ronald V. (Added Author). Dalrymple, Julian. (Screenwriter, Director). Hill, Matthew Patrick. (Screenwriter, Director). Harvey, Travis Carter. (Producer). Bell, Steve, 1935- (Narrator). Ohio River Teaching American History Project. (Added Author).

Summary: Explores the history of Madison, Ind. on the banks of the Ohio River and its relationship to the surrounding Ohio River Valley and to U.S. history in general. Begins with the founding of Madison in the 1800s when it was on America's western frontier and continues through the tumultuous periods of the Underground Railroad, when free blacks lived with fear along the north bank of the Ohio, and the Civil War. Discusses how food processing and manufacturing industries came to Madison, the impact of the 1937 Ohio River flood, and the evolution of popular architectural styles from early Federal to mid-twentieth century styles. Examines more modern developments as Progressive reformers, the New Deal, war programs, and energy concerns have all left their mark on Madison.
